All the fluorescent emergency lights I’ve ever owned (and I’ve still got a few)–which used D cells–would not run–last–for 20 hours on a set of D cells, but more like 3 hours at best. (I also know, from experimentation–that the current drain of this type lamp is ≈ 500 mA). (I live in an area where power outages have given me much too ample opportunity for un-wanted data-gathering, and D-cell purchases).

I really do recommend hitting a local library, or even better a university library, and seeing if they have any books on induction heating. Newer books will get into control systems, simulation, numerical design, etc. Older books will be more practical. Things won’t be as optimized, but you’re looking for a melter, not a heat treating application.
Find the power supply. Forget about finding the motor. The power supply will be large and heavy. I would do something like put it in a water bottle and have contacts in the bottle cage. You could fit it in a seatpost, but it would be hard to retrieve. Other places? You could put it in the tire or rim, but that would make the handling atrocious.
The point I am making is that, from an engineering standpoint, running a tunnel-boring machine horizontally through a fold in the Appalachians is a piece of cake to do. It gets a bit more involved out in the Rockies but remember, you don’t have to go from the "zero elevation" point to obtain the desired effect. Even short tunnels of only a thousand or 2,000 feet at the top end will dramatically reduce the national fuel burn.
I’m working on a portable rocket stove and am thinking an ammo box will work lined with refractory cement and a gas stove top… though can make due with what is available at camps or with my gas stove that I don’t prefer to use. I think I last left off wondering the current on an induction cook top or something electric heating with a SLA AGM battery buffer that I can charge with a larger inverter during the day. I haven’t performed the math calculation yet regarding cook time, charge time and energy used for cooking.
If you need to differentiate that its non ionizing, you probably need to say its non ionizing. trying to dumb it down has lead to the kind of “its all bad radiation” confusion in the first place.

The good thing is: You get 1000cycles 100% depth of discharge (or 3000 with 80%). Compare this to lead acid, where you should not go below 50% discharge, if you want to get a decent amount of cycles, I think, if you want more than 100 or 200. There are LiFePO4 replacement batteries for car batteries, but most time they have much less capacity than the lead acid counterpart they replace, probably just because they are much more discharge tolerant. What I am not sure is, how they react to automotive temperatures. My LiFePO4 battery wants to be charged only between 0°C and 45°C
