I just wanted to point out that the top road sprinter’s output somewhere around 1500W to a whopping 2000W or more (for the pure sprinters). 1000W would be considered dismal. The rest of your comment sounds pretty accurate though.
I saw something similar at a science exhibition recently – it was a demo of detecting cracks in ferrous parts, by placing a magnet one one side and looking for anomalies in the resulting field. Not sure if it was a commercial device or research prototype but it was a similar array of hall or GMR sensors, with fancier processing of the display

In 1988 slitting steel without shims to set the knife clearances was unheard of. We now have shimless slitter tooling with up to half a micron thickness tolerance that runs with a software program. I read where 71% of oil consumed in the USA is used in transportation but I haven’t found how much of that is used for trucking. Trying to wrap my head around your tunnel idea… how much oil it would save… and if this could crash the price.
