I just wanted to point out that the top road sprinter’s output somewhere around 1500W to a whopping 2000W or more (for the pure sprinters). 1000W would be considered dismal. The rest of your comment sounds pretty accurate though.

I find myself curious how a motor that was small enough to hide within the axle of a bicycle could possibly provide enough torque to be of any advantage whatsoever. Every little bit counts maybe? Definitely not worth throwing away a career over.
