Bicycles, as a traditional industry, are rapidly changing with new technology, such as fiber laser cutting technology. Why say that? Because bicycles have lots of changed during their development, the size range from kids to adults, from fixed size to flexible size, customized size to the rider, and foldable design to meet personalized demand. The materials are from normal steel to stainless steel, aluminum, titanium, and carbon fiber.
The quality of bicycle manufacture has also increased by importing the new technology, the fiber laser cutting makes the design and production more possible. With the popularity of bicycle exercise, the demand for foldable bicycles has increased a lot; lightweight and portable are important. How do we ensure these two points in the design and production?
Aluminum and titanium pipes will be used instead of stainless steel as the main foldable bicycle frame in production. Although the price will be higher than that of black steel, many foldable bicycle fans will accept it. Lightweight materials and smart structure design give a lot of conveniences, same as outdoor camping, off the metro, or to solve the last 1km to the destination. Foldable bicycles give us a lot of fun and exercise in high-pressure lives.
How do we ensure the accuracy of the cutting result?
- If we use a sawing machine to cut the aluminum, the surface will be distorted a lot.
- If cutting by laser, the cutting edge is good, but there is a new question, the doss and slag inside the pipe.
Because aluminum slag is easy to stick to the inside of the pipe. Even small amounts of slag will increase friction between the tubes, making it inconvenient to fold and store. Not only the foldable bicycle, but also lots of portable and foldable design products need to solve this problem.
